Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, visited the Central Division on 30 November 2015 to thank Singapore Police Force (SPF) officers for their work in keeping Singapore safe and secure in a busy SG50 year. He was accompanied by Mr Leo Yip, Permanent Secretary, MHA, and Mr Hoong Wee Teck, Commissioner of Police.
During the visit, Mr Shanmugam was briefed on SPF's challenges, as well as strategies and key initiatives to meet these challenges. He was also briefed on the major local and overseas operations undertaken by the SPF in 2015. These operations included the State Funeral for founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the 28th Southeast Asian Games, the Jubilee Weekend Celebrations and the General Election. Apart from these local operations, SPF also participated in overseas disaster relief operations such as the Nepal earthquake and the crash of Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ8501.
Following the briefing, Mr Shanmugam interacted with Police Officers from the various Land Divisions, Special Operations Command and Traffic Police at a tea reception, during which he conveyed his appreciation to them for their dedication, service and professionalism in keeping Singapore safe and secure.
