SERIAL THIEF ARRESTED

The police have arrested a 61-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a series of thefts from persons.

Between October and November 2015, Police received several reports related to theft from persons, which occurred at Bangkit Road. Acting on the reports, a dedicated team of officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and canvassing of images from the Police Cameras (POLCAM). Their efforts were paid off when they managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested her on 5 December 2015 at Block 17 Old Airport Road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed several cases of theft from persons at Bedok, Waterloo Street, Toa Payoh, Bangkit Road and Redhill public housing estates.

The suspect will be charged in the State Courts on 7 December 2015 under the offence of Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the suspect would face imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, a fine, or both.

The Police would like to remind the public to stay vigilant while they are out shopping, especially during the festive season. The public should be mindful of their personal belongings in the public places, avoid carrying excessive amounts of cash and valuables with them, and should not leave them unattended and risk attracting opportunistic criminals.
