The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man and 23-year-old woman for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 5 December 2015, Police received a report that a unit at Sembawang Drive was splashed with paint and had graffiti scrawled on the wall. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division arrested both suspects in the vicinity of East Coast Park on 8 December 2015. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects are believed to have committed similar loanshark harassment island-wide in Ang Mo Kio, Woodlands and Bukit Panjang. Loanshark paraphernalia such as bicycle locks and markers were found in their possession and seized as case exhibits.

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 10 December 2015 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
