Large crowds are expected around the Orchard Road area especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. To ensure safety and security of the public, Police officers, Auxiliary Police officers and security officers will be deployed for crowd duties.

The public is advised to note the following advisory on safety and security:

Safety and Security Arrangements

For security reasons, bags and personal items may be subjected to Police checks. The public is advised to cooperate with the Police and Auxiliary Police officers should checks be conducted. If you come across any suspicious items or persons, immediately notify the nearest Police officers or Auxiliary Police officers.

Dispersal is likely to be slow due to the large crowds expected in the Orchard Road area. Members of public are advised to exercise tolerance, to cooperate with and follow the instructions of the Police and Auxiliary Police officers. Crowd control barricades and directional signs will be put up to facilitate safe and orderly dispersal.

Police would like to remind the public who are out enjoying the festivities to remain vigilant against crime. The public is advised to take the following crime prevention measures:

  • Look after your belongings at all times;
  • Be cautious of strangers when approached;
  • Stay close to your friends or move around in groups; and
  • Avoid contact with unruly crowds.

Women are advised to be vigilant against opportunists who may commit molest in crowded areas. There have been previous incidents where individuals are known to spray foam onto victims and molest them.

The public is also reminded to be considerate to others when celebrating the year-end festivities in public areas and to avoid doing anything that may cause annoyance or compromise the safety of others. Police would not hesitate to take action against any person who commits crime or to cause nuisance to the general public under the guise of festivities.

Members of the public may approach Police officers or dial ‘999’, if they require any urgent assistance. They may also make a report at the nearest Police station for assistance.
