The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of cat abuse cases in Yishun on 27 December 2015.

Between September and December 2015, the Police and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) received several reports of cats found injured or dead in Yishun. AVA conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division assisted AVA in their investigations and established his identity. He was subsequently arrested by the Police on 27 December 2015 along Yishun Ring Road.

The 40-year-old man will be charged in Court by AVA on 29 December 2015 for committing offence(s) of animal cruelty.

Under the Animals and Birds Act, anyone found guilty of animal cruelty can be fined up to $15,000 and/or jailed up to 18 months, or both for the first offence. For second and subsequent offences, the maximum penalty is $30,000 or a jail term of up to 3 years, or both.

AVA will investigate all public feedback on animal cruelty and take enforcement actions against those who have committed acts of animal cruelty. We urge the public who have any information on animal cruelty cases, such as photographs, video evidence or witnesses, to contact AVA at 1800-476-1600.
