The Police have arrested a 56-year-old man for causing hurt to an officer from the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF).

On 6 November 2015 at around 10.30 a.m., officers from Tanglin Division responded to a report about a MSF officer who was assaulted while on duty.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had gone to MSF’s Social Service Office at Toa Payoh to seek aid. During the course of the interview with a 34-year-old MSF officer, he turned aggressive and started hitting the officer before being stopped by other MSF officers. The suspect was subsequently arrested by responding officers.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 6 January 2016 for an offence of Voluntarily Causing Hurt to a Public Servant under Section 332 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Any person convicted of an offence of Voluntarily Causing Hurt to a Public Servant shall be punished for a term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments. Perpetrators who assault public servants or public service workers can be expected to be dealt with to the full extent of the law.
