The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 31 December 2015, Police received a report that a residential unit at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 had been locked with a bicycle lock. A debtor’s note was also found at the said unit. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio and Jurong Division arrested the suspect along Bishan Street 23 on 5 January 2016. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have been involved in other similar loanshark harassment cases in Ang Mo Kio, Woodlands and Yishun housing estates.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 7 January 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
