The Police have arrested two women, aged 24 and 47 for their suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

On 20 January 2016, Police received a report that a residential unit at Yishun Avenue 4 had been splashed with paint and loanshark graffiti were also scribbled on the walls next to front door. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and established the identity of the 24-year-old suspect before arresting her in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 on the same day. Following the arrest, the identity of her 47-year-old accomplice was established and she was arrested along Bras Basah Road shortly after. Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to have committed similar loanshark harassment cases in Ang Mo Kio, Tampines and Bedok.

The two suspects will be charged in Court on 22 January 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
