The Police have arrested four men aged between 15 and 20 for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases.

On 2 February 2016, Police received a report that a residential unit along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 had been splashed with paint, scribbled with loanshark graffiti on the wall and had a bicycle lock fastened on the grille gate. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established their identities of the suspects and arrested them on 4 and 5 February 2016 respectively. Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to have committed similar loanshark harassment cases in Ang Mo Kio, Yishun, Woodlands and Boon Lay estates.

The four suspects will be charged in Court on 6 February 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
