The Police have arrested 2 men aged 28 and 32 for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 17 January 2016 at about 4:15 am, Police were alerted to a case of suspicious character loitering outside a unit located at Blk 102 Jurong East Street 13. Officers from Clementi Division responded to the scene and seized two pieces of debtor’s notes pasted outside the unit.

Through follow up enquiries and the retrieval of images captured on the Police Cameras (PolCams), the identities of the suspects were established and they were subsequently arrested on 18 February 2016.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo are believed to have carried out similar act of harassments at Jurong East, Jurong West, and Marine Terrace housing estates.

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 19 February 2016 under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
