Prompt Detection Resulting In The Arrest Of Two Illegal Immigrants

The Police Coast Guard (PCG) has arrested two men suspected to be illegal immigrants.

On 26 February 2016 at about 7.48am, PCG officers spotted a suspicious wooden craft in Singapore waters. The officers intercepted the craft and conducted checks on the two men. The two men, aged 22 and 42, were subsequently arrested for entering Singapore unlawfully and the craft was seized for investigations.

The two men will be charged in Court on 27 February 2015 at 9 am with the offence of Illegal Entry into Singapore under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 133. On conviction, they shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months and shall also, subject to sections 325(1) and 330(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code 2010, be punished with caning with not less than 3 strokes, or where by virtue of that section he is not punishable with caning, he shall, in lieu of caning, be punished with a fine not exceeding $6,000.

Commander of the PCG, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun commended the officers for their good work which led to the arrest. He said, This is another display of  resolve to safeguard the Singapore waters, despite the challenging environment.
