The Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 5 March 2016, Police received a report that a unit at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 was being locked by a blue bicycle lock and had red paint splashed on the door. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division ascertained the particulars of the suspect and arrested him in the vicinity of Orchard Road on 8 March 2016. He is believed to have committed similar loanshark harassment in Bedok.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 10 March 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
