The Police have arrested two men, aged 38 and 45, who are believed to be involved in several cases of theft from Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

On 25 February 2016, Police was informed that several unauthorized withdrawals had been made via cloned ATM cards and some of these cloned cards were detained by the ATMs.

Acting on the report, officers from Tanglin Division conducted extensive follow up investigations and established the identity of the two suspects before arresting them at Changi Airport on 16 March 2016.

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 18 March 2016 with the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all ATM/credict cards owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Safeguard their ATM/credit cards at crowded places;
  • To be aware of their surroundings, and ensure that their ATM PINs are not exposed to anyone else when making payments with ATM/credit cards.
