The Police have arrested two females, aged 25 and 15, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 27 Apr 2016, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment where a residential unit at Jurong West was secured by a bicycle lock and splashed with paint. Loanshark graffiti were also found scrawled on the wall. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Division established the identity of the 2 suspects and arrested them at Holland Close on 5 May 2016.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have carried out similar acts of harassments at Boon Lay, Jurong East, Punggol, Hougang and Commonwealth housing estates. A black cap, a pouch, a haversack and a mobile phone were seized as case exhibits.

The 2 suspects will be charged in Court on 7 May 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
