We refer to Mr Jeffery Law Lee Beng’s letter “Instilling responsible driving better than installing more cameras” on 23 May 2016.

There are three prongs to Traffic Police (TP)’s approach to enhance road safety – education, engagement and enforcement.  Over the years, the TP has conducted many outreach activities with the Singapore Road Safety Council and other community partners to educate and engage various parties on road safety in Singapore.  The “Use Your RoadSense” movement launched in 2015 is one such initiative.

However, TP also needs to take strict enforcement action against errant road users who flout traffic rules.  We need to enforce our rules and send a strong message to motorists who endanger other road users.

Nurturing a strong road safety culture is a long-term effort by TP working in partnership with the community. Together, we can make our roads safer.
