Man Arrested for Impersonating a Public Servant and Outrage of Modesty

The Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for his suspected involvement in the offences of impersonating a Public Servant and Outrage of Modesty.

On 5 June 2016, at about 10.30 pm, the victim reported to the Police that a man had identified himself as a Police officer and allegedly molested the victim along Tanglin Halt Road.  Officers from Clementi Division conducted extensive enquiries, swiftly established the identity of the man and arrested him at Redhill Close on 6 Jun 2016.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 8 June for the offences of Impersonating a Public Servant under Section 170 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, Outraging Modesty and Insulting the Modesty of Woman. For the offence of Impersonating a Public Servant, it carries a jail term which may extend to 2 years, or with a fine, or both.  For the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, it carries a jail term of up to 2 years, or fined and also be liable to caning, upon conviction and for the offence of Insulting the Woman, it carries a jail term of up to one year, or with fine, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public to be vigilant and wary of persons who may impersonate as Police Officers to facilitate the commission of their criminal acts. If in doubt, they should request for the Police Officer’s Warrant Card to verify his identity before complying with the instructions of the officer. A genuine warrant card will have identification features such as the Police crest, the photo of the officer, his name and NRIC number. When the card is tilted at an angle, the holographic word “POLICE” will also appear below the Officer’s photograph. If they are still unsure of the person’s credibility as a Police Officer, they should call 999 for assistance.
