In December 2015, the Police received several reports from members of public informing that they had been deceived to invest in a project which a 28-year-old male suspect had claimed to have a contract with the Housing and Development Board (HDB). The suspect is believed to have presented a contract purportedly awarded by the HDB to install Security Smart Home System Camera for 500,000 households. The victims subsequently checked with HDB and were informed that such contract did not exist.
Through follow up investigations, the identity of the suspect was established and it was revealed that he is believed to have received a total of S$26,000 from two victims.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 5 August 2016 with the offence of Cheating which carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to be more cautious and verify the authenticity of such contracts before making any investment. Members of the public may refer to the HDB’s website at www.hdb.gov.sg for queries relating to HDB matters.
