The Police have arrested a 32 year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of Robbery, at Lorong 7 Geylang, within 17 hours of the report lodged.
On 6 August 2016 at about 2.30am, a taxi driver had reported to the Police that a man with a knuckleduster, had demanded for and obtained his mobile phone before running away. Upon receipt of the report, officers from Bedok Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigation. The identity of the suspect was established and he was arrested at Yishun Street 51 on 6 August 2016 at about 7pm.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 8 August 2016 with the offence of Armed Robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 punishable with imprisonment of not less than 3 years and not more than 14 years and shall be punished with canning with not less than 12 strokes, and as a weapon was used in the commission of the offence, shall be punished with an additional canning not less than 12 strokes.
An order will be sought for the suspect to be remanded in Bedok Division. He is believed to be involved in other cases of theft against taxi drivers.
