The Police are investigating a 71-year-old man believed to have lodged a false report.

On 26 September 2016 at about 11.20 am, the 71-year-old man lodged a report alleging that two unknown men had assaulted him and robbed him of his cash amounting to $5000 before fleeing along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was believed that the 71-year-old man had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will be dealt with under the law.
