The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of online purchase scam.

On 8 October 2016, the Police received a report from a victim who was purportedly cheated by a seller for the purchase of an IPhone 7. After the victim had handed over the cash to the suspect at the MRT station, the suspect left the location hurriedly. The victim then made a check and discovered that the box only contained several pieces of nails and screws wrapped together in scotch tape.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) and Tanglin Division followed up on the matter and arrested the suspect.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 10 October 2016 with the offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Any person found guilty of the offence may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
