The Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment.
On 25 November 2016 at about 5.30pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where paint was splashed at the main door of a unit at Blk 408 Bukit Batok West Ave 4. Through extensive follow-up investigations and the aid of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Division arrested the man at Lorong 15 Geylang on 29 November 2016.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a debtor-turned-harasser and is believed to be involved in several other loanshark harassment cases islandwide.
The suspect will be charged in court on 1 December 2016. Under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition), first time offender found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
