The Police have arrested one man and one woman, aged 26 and 41 respectively, for their suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

 

On 27 November 2016, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment where a residential unit at Blk 476A Pasir Ris Drive 6 was splashed with red paint and loanshark-related graffiti scrawled on the wall along the staircase. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of footages from Police Cameras (PolCams), officers from Bedok Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on 30 November 2016 along Pandan Gardens and Senoko Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have carried out several acts of loanshark harassments in housing estates island wide. One notebook, one marker, two bottles containing blue and purple-coloured paint as well as one handphone were seized as case exhibits.

 

Investigations against the man is ongoing.

 

The woman will be charged in Court on 2 December 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition), while the male suspect aged 26 has been released on police bail. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
