The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of house-breaking by night at a retail building along Collyer Quay.

 

On 30 December 2016 at about 9.32am, the Police received a report that a shop located along Collyer Quay had been broken into. Four branded bags and a branded watch were found missing.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Central Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 12 January 2017.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 13 January 2017 with the offence of Housebreaking by Night to commit theft under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

 

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

 

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your shop unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises, and ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
