The Police Coast Guard (PCG) has arrested two men, aged 30 and 33, for unlawful entry into Singapore on 9 March 2017.
On 9 March 2017 at about 1.09am, PCG detected two floating objects believed to be swimmers at the sea off Woodlands waterfront heading towards Singapore waters. Following the detection, both land and sea resources were deployed and both suspects were arrested swiftly.
Under the Immigration Act (Cap 133), the penalties for overstaying or illegal entry are a jail term of up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane, while the penalties for illegal departure are a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
