The Police have arrested a 44-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases involving taxi drivers.

Between January to March 2017, the Police received multiple reports about a man who cheated taxi drivers of their money and for failing to pay for taxi fare. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man
had flagged for taxis and asked the drivers to stop at a market along Haig Road before proceeding to his intended destination. He then requested for loans of between S$20/- and S$40/- from the taxi drivers on various pretexts, on each occasion. The suspect would then alight from the taxi without paying for the fare and and also fail to pay the money he had borrowed.

Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Division established the identity of the suspect, who was subsequently arrested in Potong Pasir on 16 March 2017.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 18 March 2017 with the offence of Cheating which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
