The Police have arrested two men, aged 30 and 36, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 8 and 12 April 2017, the Police received reports on loanshark harassment in Hougang. The residential units were splashed with paint and loanshark-related graffiti was also scrawled on the walls. Through extensive ground enquiries and footage from Police Cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them along Mountbatten Road and Aljunied Crescent on 13 April 2017.
The suspects will be charged in Court on 15 April 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
