The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for his suspected involvement in providing false information to obtain loans from loansharks.

On 4 May 2017, a man reported to the Police that he had been harassed by a loanshark who was looking for the former house occupant to demand the repayment of loans which the latter took. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had used his former residential address when obtaining loans from loansharks since November 2016. On 11 May 2017, through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division arrested the suspect along Segar Road.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition), any person who is found guilty of providing false information to obtain loans from loansharks shall be liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months.
