12 men and five women were arrested following a 19-hour joint operation that commenced from 10am on 18 May 2017 to 5am on 19 May 2017.
The operation was jointly led by Ang Mo Kio Police Division and Central Narcotics Bureau, and involved officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force. The operation involved a series of enforcement raids and checks at residential units in Sembawang, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon, Hougang, Sengkang, and Punggol, as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal activities in such premises.
A total of four men and one woman were arrested for drug-related offences.
Three women were also arrested under the Provision of the Women’s Charter. Preliminary investigations revealed that the women were believed to be advertising sexual service via online websites and operating within the residential areas. Cash amounting to $800 and five handphones were seized as case exhibits.
A gambling den, operating under the disguise of a registered society, was also busted and eight men and one woman were arrested for gambling-related offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act.
Investigations against the suspects are ongoing.
