The Traffic Police (TP) and Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC), with support from the Land Transport Authority, People's Association, Ministry of Education, InfoComm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Automobile Association of Singapore, launched the Singapore Road Safety Month (SRSM) 2017 at NEX today. Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health, Mr Amrin Amin, was the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

In its fifth year, SRSM 2017 will focus TP and SRSC’s road safety efforts on vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists, elderly pedestrians and children. The campaign also emphasises the importance of cultivating good RoadSense and observing road safety measures.

TP and SRSC collaborated with partners such as the IMDA, Samsung and Harley Davidson to develop three Virtual Reality (VR) immersive experiences to help educate young pedestrians, drivers and motorcyclists on road safety – 'IM Road Safety Savvy', ‘Eyes on the Road’ and ‘Road Sensibility’. The ‘IM Road Safety Savvy’ experience developed by IMDA uses 360-degree videos and VR interactive games to educate children on road safety. VR experiences ‘Eyes on the Road’ and ‘Road Sensibility’ target motorists and motorcyclists, giving first-hand perspectives of the consequences of distracted driving and educating on safe riding measures. The VR experiences will be available at the Singapore Safety Driving Centre, ComfortDelGro Driving Centre, Bukit Batok Driving Centre and at the Road Safety Community Park by 2018.

Apart from the VR experiences, posters to remind pedestrians and motorists on the importance of staying focused on the roads will be distributed to schools, driving centres, community clubs/centres, and during road safety talks and exhibitions.

We hope these initiatives will promote a good RoadSense culture and encourage all road users to do their part in creating a safer road environment for everyone.
