Man Arrested for Evading a Road Block and Suspected Drug-related Offences

The Police have arrested a 43-year-old man for his suspected involvement in Evasion of Road Block, Dangerous Driving, Driving without License and suspected drug-related offences on 2 June 2017.

 

On 2 June 2016 at about 1am, officers from Traffic Police (TP) were conducting a road block along Mackenzie Road. When officers asked for the driving license of the 43-year-old man, he drove off and beat red lights along the way. The man also drove against the flow of traffic along Portsdown Road towards Normanton Road. After the pursuit, police officers managed to detain the car driver, who put up a violent struggle. During the struggle, two police officers were injured and they were subsequently conveyed to hospital with minor injuries. The 43-year-old car driver was arrested for evading a road block, dangerous driving, driving without license and other driving- and suspected drug- related offences. A 34-year-old female passenger was also arrested for suspected consumption of controlled drugs. Drug-related paraphernalia was seized from the car.

  

Investigations are ongoing.

 

Under Section 64(1) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 276, motorists caught for dangerous driving, upon conviction, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both.

 

The Police conduct road blocks to deter and detect crimes. Members of public are advised to cooperate with police officers when approached during road blocks. Any evasion of a road block can potentially cause serious harm to other road users. Any person convicted of Evading a Road Block shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or both.
