The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 22 March 2017, Police received a report on loanshark harassment where debtor notes were pasted on the gate of a residential unit at Blk 335 Clementi Avenue 2. Through extensive ground enquiries and viewing of images from Police Cameras (PolCams) and other cameras in the area, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Blk 606 Senja Road on 28 June 2017.  

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment in the vicinity of Clementi, Woodlands, Bedok, Chai Chee and Tampines housing estate.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 30 June 2017 under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
