The Police have arrested a man and a woman, aged 29 and 28 respectively, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 12 June 2017, Police received a report on loanshark harassment where a residential unit at Marsiling Lane was splashed with paint and loanshark graffiti were found scrawled on the wall along the staircase. Through extensive ground enquiries and the viewing of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them along Hougang Avenue and Senja Road on 27 June 2017.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Woodlands and Serangoon housing estates. Police seized personal apparels, a cap and two mobile phones in connection to the case.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 29 June 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
