The Police have arrested 3 men aged between 23 and 25 for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases.

On 7 August 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment whereby loanshark-related graffiti was found scrawled on the wall of a residential unit at Blk 337 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. A bicycle lock was also used to chain the unit. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him and two other men on 10 August 2017 along Woodlands Road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that all three men are believed to be involved in other loanshark harassment cases islandwide.

The trio will be charged in Court on 12 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
