The Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 9 August 2017, the Police received a report informing that a residential unit at Bishan St 12 had been splashed with paint. The gate was locked with a bicycle chain and loanshark-related graffiti was also found scrawled on the wall near the unit. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Choa Chu Kang Grove on 15 August 2017. The suspect is believed to be involved in multiple similar cases island-wide.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 17 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
