The Police have arrested two men and one woman, aged between 28 and 46, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

 

On 9 August 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment where debtor notes were pasted outside a residential unit along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and established the identities of the three suspects with the aid of images from Police cameras. They were subsequently arrested on 17 August 2017 at Punggol and Pasir Ris.

 

The trio will be charged in Court on 19 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
