The Police have arrested 4 men, aged between 17 and 18, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 13 August 2017, Police received a report on loanshark harassment where a residential unit at Woodlands Drive 14 was splashed with dark-coloured substance. Through extensive ground enquiries and the viewing of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them at the vicinity of Hougang Street 61 and Compassvale Road on 18 September 2017.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Sengkang, Hougang, Bedok and Woodlands estates. Police seized personal apparels and 2 mobile phones in connection to the case.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 20 September 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
