The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man and two women aged 29 and 48 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 18 September 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment whereby the door of a residential unit at New Upper Changi Road was splashed with paint. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division arrested the trio the next day along Hougang Avenue 1.

The 48-year-old woman will be charged in Court on 21 September 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of committing loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to be punished with not less than three strokes of the cane. Investigations against the remaining duo are ongoing.
