The Police have arrested 36 women, aged between 21 and 38, for their suspected involvement in vice-related activities.

On 26 September 2017, officers from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Central Division conducted a raid at a hotel along Jalan Besar Road, resulting in the arrests. The women are on valid social visit passes, and had allegedly made use of their stay in Singapore to commit vice-related offences. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vice syndicate had been advertising the sexual services of women on different vice websites and online platforms, including ‘WeChat’.

The Police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved in syndicated vice activities. Under the Women’s Charter, Chapter 353:

  • Any person who is the tenant, lessee, occupier or person in charge of any place which is used as a brothel, or keep, manage or assist in the management of a brothel, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of up to a maximum of $10,000, or to imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
  • Any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person (being a woman or girl) shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding S$10,000.
