The Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 24 October 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment at Pasir Ris Drive 10. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras (Polcams), officers from Bedok Police Division arrested the suspect on the same day along Ubi Avenue 3.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out several acts of harassment in Chai Chee, Tampines, Bedok North, Boon Lay and Ang Mo Kio housing estates.
The man will be charged in Court on 26 October 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of committing loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to be punished with not less than three strokes of the cane.
