The Police have arrested two men, aged 20 and 21, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 28 October 2017, the Police were informed that the walls of a residential unit at Toa Payoh had loanshark graffiti and the door locked with a bicycle lock. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Police Division swiftly established the identity of the suspects and arrested them along Canberra Walk on 1 November 2017.
The suspects will be charged in Court on 3 November 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
