The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of fake gold scams at various pawnshops.

 

On 8 November 2017, the Police received a report that someone had pawned gold bangles that were believed to be fake at a pawnshop. Further investigation revealed that several similar cases were reported between 1 and 8 November 2017 at other pawnshops.  

 

Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive investigations to establish the identity of the man and arrested him on 9 November 2017 while he was trying to leave the country. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is suspected to be involved in more than five such cases.

 

The man will be charged in Court on 11 November 2017 with the offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
