The Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a loanshark harassment case.
On 22 November 2017, Police received a report of a man who allegedly harassed a family residing at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 over a loan from an unlicensed moneylender. After the man left, the family received photos of their residential unit through one of their mobile phones.
Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested the man along Marine Terrace on 23 November 2017. Preliminary investigation revealed that the man is believed to be responsible for other harassment cases island-wide.
The man will be charged in Court on 25 November 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
