The Delta League Community Day was held on 2 December 2017 at various locations islandwide. Jointly organized by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), it is a biannual engagement programme that seeks to engage the youths and keep them meaningfully occupied during the June and December school holidays through football.
Community Engagement on Shop Theft and Online Purchase Scams
During the Delta League Community Day, the participants became crime prevention ambassadors for the day to engage the community on crime prevention advisories. As shop theft remains the most common offence that youths were arrested for, they were briefed on the concerns with shop theft and how to engage their peers to warn them against committing the offence.
With the increasing popularity of online shopping and more people, including youths, falling prey to online purchase scams, the Delta League participants were also asked to share crime prevention advice on online purchase scams.
The participants fanned out to these locations - Causeway Point, Clementi Central, Esplanade, Jurong Point, Tampines Central, Toa Payoh Central and Waterway Point – to engage and share crime prevention advisories with members of public, in particular fellow youths. It was a fun and meaningful experience for the Delta League participants and helped improve their communication skills and imbue in them a collective sense of social responsibility.
Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC and Advisor to Delta League, Mr Melvin Yong, was present at the briefing session at 1st Division Singapore Civil Defence Force, where he provided words of encouragement to the youths before they left for their community engagement duties for the day.
