The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman for their suspected involvement in the online sales of counterfeit luxury bags, pouches, caps, floor mats and card holders.
In a 12-hour operation mounted on 8 March 2018, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted raids at Gambas Crescent and Woodlands Industrial Park and arrested two suspects. During the operation, a total of 4,704 pieces of trade mark infringing goods such as bags, pouches, caps, floor mats and card holders with an estimated street value of about S$102,000, were seized. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects used an e-commerce platform to order these counterfeit goods from foreign sources, before reselling them locally via another e-commerce platform.
The Police take a serious view of intellectual property right (IPR) infringements and will not hesitate to take strict enforcement action against perpetrators who show blatant disregard for the law. With the growth of e-commerce platforms, members of the public are advised to be careful of counterfeit products being sold on such platforms.
Persons found guilty of selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trademarks may be fined up to a maximum of $100,000, or an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
