The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 21 March 2018, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment at a residential unit in Rivervale Crescent. The gate of the unit was locked with a bicycle lock and splashed with paint. A debtor’s note was also pasted on the wall next to the unit. Through extensive follow-up enquiries and the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Kwong Min Road on 26 March 2018.

 

The suspect will be charged in court on 28 March 2018 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010).

 

Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
