The Police are investigating a 47-year-old woman for lodging a false report.
On 22 March 2018 at 8.26 pm, the woman lodged a report alleging that a car she had rented was stolen after she parked it along Havelock Road.
In the course of investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division detected many inconsistencies in the woman’s account and established that she had provided false information by claiming she was a victim of car theft.
Investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
