The Police have arrested a 43-year-old male Indian National for his suspected involvement in a case of criminal breach of trust as servant involving $470,000.

On 27 March 2018, Police received a report that an employee of a money changer had absconded with $470,000 in cash, all of which he was supposed to have couriered to the company’s office. The employee’s identity was promptly established through his employer. However, the employee had already left Singapore for Malaysia before the report was lodged.

On 28 March 2018, less than 12 hours after the report was received, the 43-year-old man was arrested in Malaysia through the assistance and close collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). He was subsequently extradited back to Singapore on 29 March 2018. Upon his arrest, cash worth about $24,000 were recovered.

The man will be charged in court on 31 March 2018 with criminal breach of trust as servant under Section 408 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he is liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Commander of Central Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Arthur Law, expressed his appreciation to the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) for their assistance in the arrest and said, “SPF is grateful for the strong support and assistance provided by RMP in the apprehension of the suspect. This arrest is testament to the effectiveness of regional cooperation in crime fighting efforts. With the continued support of law enforcement agencies in the region, we will ensure that swift justice is served to criminals regardless of where they choose to flee.”
