The Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 31 March 2018, the Police were alerted by the occupant of a residential unit at Blk 9 Lorong 7 Toa Payoh that he was harassed by a man demanding for repayment of unlicensed loans. Through extensive ground enquires, officers from Toa Payoh Neighbourhood Police Centre established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 3 April 2018.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in several cases of loanshark harassment island-wide.

The man will be charged in court on 5 April 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
