Four Men Investigated For House To House And Street Collections Without License

The Police are investigating four men, aged between 18 to 24, for their suspected involvement in a case collecting donations without license.

Between 2 and 19 March 2018, the Police received several reports from members of the public informing that they were approached by youths asking for donations and in some cases, to purchase mobile phone accessories. They claimed that they were representing an organisation and said that the donations and proceeds of the sales would go to the underprivileged and ex-convicts.

Through follow-up enquiries, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identities of the suspects who are currently assisting with investigations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects did not have a license to solicit for donations or to collect funds and are believed to be involved in series of similar cases. Police investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for the offence of House to House and Street Collections Without License under Section 3(2) of the House to House Street Collections Act may be liable for a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or to both.

Members of the public are advised to check the validity of the license for fund raising activities via the following portals to avoid falling victim to unlicensed fund raising activities:
