The Police have arrested 2 youths, aged 16 and 17, for their suspected involvement in a case of house-breaking and theft by night at a coffee shop located along Tampines Street 11.

On 7 April 2018 at about 11.04 am, the Police received a report that a coffee shop had been broken into and $400 cash was missing. Upon receipt of the report, officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and they managed to establish the identity of the youths with the aid of police cameras.

On 8 April 2018 and 9 April 2018, the 17-year-old and 16-year-old youths were arrested along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and Simei Avenue respectively. Investigations against the 16-year-old youth are ongoing.

The 17-year-old youth will be charged in court on 10 April 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in unattended premises; and
  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
